NEPAL Over 3,000 protesters march through Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, demanding an end to child labour in the country. The demonstration is seen as part of a global drive to highlight the state of the world’s 250 million child workers.

CHILE General Augusto Pinochet – the ex-military dictator who had thousands of political opponents tortured and murdered – is sworn in as senator-for-life under the terms of a constitution he designed himself.
