The Basel Convention
The countries that signed the Basel Convention agreed that:
- From 1994, industrialised countries would NOT send their toxic waste to developing countries, except to be recycled;
- From 1998, no more export of toxic waste, even for recycling.
The United States of America is the only industrialized country that has not signed the Basel Convention.
According to Greenpeace, the USA is the biggest exporter of toxic waste to developing countries.
