Reading
There are too many general books on refugees to be able to list them here, so
I have concentrated on background reading on Uganda and Sudan. Amnesty
International have succinct reports on the human-rights situations
in both countries. African Rights, 11 Marshalsea Road, London

in Sudan.
UGANDA
Changing Uganda: the dilemmas of structural adjustment and revolutionary
change, edited by Holger Bernt Hansen and Michael Twaddle (James Currey
1991). Chapters by different authors on a whole range of issues. Uganda
since Independence: a story of unfulfilled hopes by Phares Mutibwa (Hurst
and Co, London, 1992) A clear-sighted account of Uganda's troubles by someone
who lived through them. Imposing Aid - emergency assistance to refugees
by Barbara Harrell-Bond (Oxford University Press 1986). A detailed account of
the experience of Ugandan refugees in Sudan in the 1980s.
SUDAN
Sudan: a nation in the balance by Chris Peters (Oxfam, 1996) A
brief introduction to the country and its people in reader-friendly style. Sudan:
