Colombia's
Abortive laws / NI
382
Dear
sir/madam
I read your magazine for the first time last week.
While I would empathise
with much of the sentiment expressed therein, I must
take issue with you on your article 'Colombia's Abortive
Laws'. Surely you can see that there is some inconsistency
in being and advocate for 'justice for all' while at
the same time advocating a women's right to abortion.
No one has the right to take someone else's life, especially
their own child, even in the case of rape. The growing
child in a mothers womb remains innocent of any crime,
so why compound the terrible injustice that has been
inflicted on her, by taking the life of her unborn
child? Love, support, protection, financial
assistance and counselling I can understand. But abortion!
I think it is sad that a magazine
such as yours which has the opportunity to truly inform and bring about change
for the good, has a blind spot when it comes to human rights for
the unborn. Surely they are the most abused group of
people on the planet. Over 60 million abortions
since abortion was first legalised in the states.
Now we also freeze them,
destroy them to extract their stem cells and so on.
It is hypocritical to deny the unborn the dignity and
respect, that we demand as a right. Far from being
singled out for human rights abuses, the Colombian
government should be lauded for their stand against
abortion.
After all they are merely
fulfilling their obligation to uphold the values of
the universal declaration of human rights.
Sincerely,
Dr AT Holohan
